Healthy Grape Leaves

By Sarah Jerzewski

Ingredients

1 Jar   Grape Leaves

2 lbs.  Ground Lean Hamburger meat

2 lbs.  Ground Very Lean Turkey (99/1)

1 16oz. bottle of lemon juice

1 tbs.  Pepper

1 tbs.  Salt

4 tbs.  Allspice

2 Small boxes of wild rice

Directions

    1. Strain grape leaves and rinse.
    2. Mix all the meat with pepper, salt, allspice, and wild rice.
    3. Add 1 cup lemon juice to meat and mix.
    4. Take one grape leave and open it so it is flat, and veins are facing up.
    5. Put about 1 tbs. of meat on the leaf, tuck sides in, and then tightly roll like a burrito.
    6. The meat should be completely covered. Repeat until all are made.
    7. Place all in a baking pan with lid as they are made.
    8. Make sure they are tightly packed so they do not unravel.
    9. When all are packed, add enough water to just cover the top row.
    10. Cook in an oven at 350’F for 1 ½ hours.
    11. Add 1 cup lemon juice. Cook for another 1 ½ hours, or until rice is fully cooked.
    12. Then eat!
